A blockbuster two-for-one trade between the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks was officially announced on the 12th, sending shockwaves through the baseball world. The sudden swap left fans in disbelief. “Are you serious…?” “This is a huge surprise!” Social media erupted with reactions like “Wait, really? Why?” and “You’ve got to be kidding me!” One fan even wrote, “This might be the biggest shock of the year.”
Yamamoto joined DeNA as the ninth-round pick in the 2017 draft. After appearing in 51 games in 2021 and establishing himself as a regular, he grew into the team’s starting catcher, logging 71 games in 2023, 108 in 2024, and 104 in 2025. This season, he had already started 24 games.
Ogata, a hard-throwing right-hander with a fastball clocked at 159 km/h, was added to the active roster on April 3 and has pitched in 10 games this season, posting an 0-2 record with a 3.00 ERA. Inoue, SoftBank’s first-round draft pick in 2020, was viewed as a future slugger but has appeared in only 28 career games at the top level. This season in the minors, he hit .250 with two home runs in 22 games.
While many fans expressed astonishment, others offered messages of gratitude and support. “I hope you have great success in your new team!” and “Thank you for everything!” were common sentiments, acknowledging the players’ past contributions and wishing them well in their new environments.
