The New York Knicks completed a dominant sweep of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday, securing a 144-114 victory to finish the series 4-0.
It was an offensive clinic against Philadelphia’s defense. The Knicks shot 54% from the field and 57% from beyond the arc, with nearly every player hitting their preferred spots on the perimeter.
The atmosphere at Xfinity Mobile Arena did not favor the 76ers. According to reporters at the game, a significant portion of the crowd was supporting the Knicks, and their presence was unmistakably loud.
Knicks guard Deuce McBride, known for receiving cheers at Madison Square Garden when he launches his trademark high-arcing three-pointers, experienced that same energy on the road. On Sunday, he heard his name chanted by what was supposed to be a hostile crowd, and he took a moment to acknowledge the Knicks fans who traveled to Pennsylvania.
“It’s honestly special,” McBride said. “I’m locked in. I’m grateful for our fans traveling. It’s amazing to represent New York and have that kind of support. I knew the Knicks had passionate fans, but seeing them travel like this throughout my career and always being loud and having our backs—it’s been incredible.”
Starting in place of the injured OG Anunoby, McBride thrived in the starting lineup, scoring 25 points on 70% shooting, including 7-of-9 from three-point range. The crowd support certainly helped.
Depending on how the semifinal series between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons concludes, Knicks fans may need to travel a bit farther east for the next round. For now, they can relish the strong connection they’ve built with Philadelphia’s arena.
