Russian tennis players Mirra Andreeva and Diana Schneider were defeated in the doubles final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid. The pair lost to the Czech-American duo of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend with a score of 6-7 (2-7), 2-6. The match lasted 1 hour and 29 minutes.
This was the fourth career doubles final for Andreeva and Schneider, and their first of the current season. In 2024, they claimed a silver medal at the Paris Olympics. Last season, they won tournaments in Brisbane, Australia, and Miami, USA, and also qualified for the WTA Finals.
The Madrid tournament, with a prize fund of €8.23 million, is a WTA 1000 event, placing it just below Grand Slams and the WTA Finals in prestige. In 2025, the doubles title here was won by Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
Andreeva had also competed in the singles final in Madrid the previous day, where she lost to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.
